Back To Back Blizzards In Winkler With Back 2 Back Shutouts

Friday, January 24, 2025: Winkler Flyers 3-0 Northern Manitoba Blizzard

The Flyers earned a 3-0 victory, improving their home record to 15-1-1. Goaltender Liam Ernst led the charge with his first shutout of the weekend, stopping all 15 shots he faced.

Max Lavoie opened the scoring at 17:24 of the first period, while Blake Matheson added a power-play goal at 10:24 of the second. Brody Beauchemin extended the Flyers’ lead with another quick goal at 11:03. Despite multiple penalties for both teams, the Flyers’ defense stood firm, limiting the Blizzard to just 15 shots on goal.


Saturday, January 25, 2025: Winkler Flyers 2-0 Northern Manitoba Blizzard

The Flyers followed up with a 2-0 shutout on Saturday, improving their home record to 16-1-1. Ernst recorded his second consecutive shutout, stopping all 23 shots from the Blizzard, and securing his 8th shutout of the season, tying the MJHL record.

After a scoreless first two periods, Brady Craik broke the deadlock at 6:42 of the third, with assists from Michelson and Gudmundson. Nicholas McKee sealed the win with a late goal at 18:11, also assisted by Michelson and Gudmundson. Despite the Blizzard’s best efforts, the Flyers’ defense and penalty kill remained impenetrable.


With the pair of shutouts, the Flyers not only continued their impressive play but also extended their point streak to 24 games. They remain one of the most dominant teams in the MJHL, with team defense and a balanced offense leading the charge.
