Flyers Surge Past Virden on Billet Appreciation Weekend

Flyers Surge Past Virden on Billet Appreciation Weekend

The Winkler Flyers capped off Billet Appreciation Weekend with a dominant 4-1 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals on Saturday night. Despite Friday’s game against the Dauphin Kings being canceled due to weather, the Flyers made sure their billet families were treated to an exciting performance on Saturday.

The day began with a brunch hosted by Mulligans Restaurant, followed by a tour of the Flyers’ facility. Families and billets had the opportunity to take memorable photos together in the team dressing room.

Before puck drop, billets and their families were invited to wear Flyers jerseys and create signs to show their support. After the team’s victory, everyone joined the players on the ice for photos, capping off a day of gratitude and connection.

Third-Period Takeover
After two tightly contested periods, the Flyers exploded for four goals in the third to secure the win.

Jayce Legaarden ignited the offense at 8:14, scoring his team-leading 20th goal of the season with assists from Jacob Michelson and Brody Beauchemin. Just over two minutes later, Isaiah Peters followed up with the go-ahead goal, converting a setup from Legaarden and Beauchemin.

Andrew Morton scored his first goal in front of the Winkler crowd to extend the lead, finishing a feed from Isaiah Peters and Kam Thomas. Legaarden put the game out of reach with an empty-net, shorthanded goal at 19:09, capping off a standout night for the Flyers’ leading scorer.
