Winkler Flyers Defeat Selkirk Steelers 9-0 In Complete Team Showing

On October 15, the Winkler Flyers dismantled the Selkirk Steelers 9-0 in a complete team effort at the Winkler ICON Arena. Niklas Gudmundson had a standout night with a hat-trick and an assist, while goaltender Liam Ernst earned the shutout with 19 saves. The Flyers dominated from start to finish, with seven different players contributing to the scoreline.

Winkler’s power play was especially lethal, converting 3 of 4 opportunities, and their penalty kill shut down all five Selkirk chances. The Steelers, overwhelmed and unable to find their rhythm, were outshot 28-19.

Winkler scored two quick goals early, with Brady Craik’s physical play proving to be a catalyst towards setting the tone. By the second, Winkler had increased the lead to 5-0, with Brody Beauchemin and Blake Matheson contributing. The Flyers continued to pile on in the third, capped by Gudmundson’s final goal on the power play and Max Lavoie’s first goal of the season.

Ernst was named the game’s first star for his solid goaltending, with Gudmundson and Beauchemin rounding out the top performers. The Flyers, now riding a five-game winning streak, improved to 6-2-0 on the season and look like a force to be reckoned with as they move forward in the MJHL.
